Christian Halloween Ideas
QUESTION: What are some Christian Halloween ideas?ANSWER:
Are you looking for some fun Christian Halloween ideas this year? Many parents don’t like the “dark side” to the origins of Halloween, but do not want their children to totally bypass the excitement of the Autumn tradition either!
Christian Halloween Ideas – Practical Suggestions
Consider using a few of these fun ideas:
-
Trunk or Treat is an upbeat alternative to traditional neighborhood strolls in the dark. Our church sponsors this community event every Halloween. The children all dress up in non-scary costumes and participate in various scheduled activities and games. We have several costume contests, such as “most original,” “best hat,” “funniest,” etc. Funny prizes are awarded for each winner.
The adults all park their cars in the parking lot with their trunks open and accessible. At a designated time, all the children are “turned loose” to go say “Trunk or Treat” at each adult handing out goodies from their trunk!
This is an event that provides a safe and “family friendly” environment versus trick or treating in various neighborhoods after dark. Encourage the adults to dress up too! This makes the night just that much more enjoyable. -
Family Fun Fall Festival is another Christian Halloween idea sure to make your children forget all about scary traditions. Consider hosting a hotdog roast, chili dinner, or country cook-out. Don’t forget the hot apple cider!
Decorations could include a fall theme with items such as hay bales, apples, mums, pumpkins, and decorative squash.
Fun activities should be planned like bobbing for apples, square dance classes, wheel barrel races, hay-rack rides, horse rides, singing around the campfire, and other “country” activities.
Fall theme “goodie bags” for each child could be prepared ahead of time. Fill them full with stickers, pencils, candy, gum, etc. Be sure to include a fun Halloween tract in everyone’s bag.
Include a short devotional or skit that shares about Jesus.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
