Knowing God
Knowing God – The Ultimate Pursuit“Knowing God is crucially important for the living of our lives. The world becomes a strange, mad, painful place, and life in it a disappointing and unpleasant business, for those who do not know about God” (Jim Packer).
Knowing God – The Beginning of Understanding
Throughout the Jewish Scriptures we learn that knowing God starts with fearing God. Indeed, “the fear of God is the beginning of understanding, wisdom, and knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7, Proverbs 9:10, Psalm 19:9, Psalm 33:8, Psalm 111:10, and Ecclesiastes 12:13).
“The fact God indwells us must not be allowed to cloud the truth that He is above us, infinitely exalted above all creation. To think of God as transcendent inspires adoration and worship. Without this idea in our minds then worship is a mere ritual and a formality. In days past, men and women who knew what it was to walk in the fear of the Lord had, as a basis for their lives, the concept of God as “high and exalted.” However intimate their communion with God, they were gripped by the fact that God was high and lifted up. Why is it that in the modern-day Church we do not meet many of this ilk?” (Selwyn Hughes).
“The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. This she has done not deliberately but little by little and without her knowledge, and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic” (A.W. Tozer).

But you, O LORD, are exalted forever (Psalm 92:8).
Knowing God is all about seeking God. In fact, God tells us in Scripture, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
-
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1).
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "Let God be exalted!" (Psalm 70:4).
-
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3).
Understanding God’s incredible love for us is the all-important step in truly knowing God! It’s the love of God that has the power to cast out fear and set us free!
-
Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever" (Psalm 118:4).
The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love (Psalm 147:11).
WHAT DO YOU THINK? - We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
